Could we get a ticket or would it be like a warning for a first time offense?

So we were driving down the road and we had these pop it things that pop when they hit something. Well i threw two of them out the the window towards the road and there was a big 18 wheeler beside us well he thought that it hit his truck and he took our license plate down as we went by. Well there was no damage cause they didn't hit his truck and nothing happened after that. Can this lead to a big ticket and if so how much? Or is it possible that he was getting our plate to scare us because this happened at around 8:20. How long should it take before we know if he called the cops?
